RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Ann DiValerio has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 93; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Ann DiValerio, nee Serio, was a World War II veteran and the loving and devoted wife of the late Anthony; and
WHEREAS, Ann DiValerio was the much-adored mother of Dennis, Denise and Greg, the grandmother of nine and the great-grandmother of five to whom she imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that she possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, A native of the Northwest Side, Ann DiValerio graduated from Notre Dame High School for Girls in 1942; and
WHEREAS, Ann DiValerio worked for the Chicago Public Library where she met a Marine to whom she became engaged; and
WHEREAS, Ann DiValerio enlisted in the Marine Corps Women's Reserve in 1943 and while she was in training at Camp Lejeune learned that her fiance was killed in action in the South Pacific Theatre of Operations; and
WHEREAS, Ann DiValerio served stateside in the Marine Corps until she was discharged in 1946; and
WHEREAS, Upon returning to Chicago, Ann DiValerio was employed at Northwestern University Dental School where she met her future husband who was a veteran of the Army Air Forces; and
WHEREAS, Ann DiValerio remained active in veteran's affairs and served two terms as President of the Illinois Women Marines Association in the late 1990s and early 2000s; and
WHEREAS, The patriotism, sacrifice and dedication of Ann DiValerio serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Ann DiValerio imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-eighth day of June, 2017, do hereby commemorate Ann DiValerio for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
