A City Council Resolution Honoring The Life of Rosie L. Peterson

WHEREAS, Almighty God in His infinite wisdom and judgment has called Mrs. Rosie L. Peterson, an outstanding citizen of the City of Chicago, to her everlasting reward on March 12,
2021;and
WHEREAS, This March Chicago City Council body has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Michelle A. Harris, Alderman of the 8th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Rosie was born in Ripley, Mississippi to Mr. Joe Peterson and Ms. Judy Adams, At the age of 18 Rosie joined the great northern migration of African Americans and moved to Chicago, where she worked in housekeeping, as a senior care worker, and as a domestic home worker for several families, In the late 90's Rosie transitioned to a job in security for the City of Chicago's Department of General Services, where she worked until she retired in 2008; and

WHEREAS, Rosie was a force of nature - strong willed, fiercely independent, and a very caring mother, She had three children and used her own lifelong experience of hard work and love of family as the guiding light of her children's lives; and

WHEREAS, Rosie often hosted big holiday dinners and weekend sleep-overs for her nieces and nephews, she enjoyed playing cards, dancing and was a passionate fan of Chicago Blues as many of the big artists of her era, like her, had roots in Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Rosie had a great understanding of people and of situations, She was a sage to all that encountered her, her wisdom - informed by her southern upbringing and years of overcoming challenges - helped guide family members through their personal trials; and

WHEREAS, Rosie was not known to mince words, she was known to "keep it real, and was fast to offer her opinion, A favorite line of Rosie's was "You can't go no higher than you think,"; and

WHEREAS, Rosie is survived by her three children Terry Peterson, Diann (Corhn) Peterson and Tyrone Peterson, five sisters, Betty Woods, Johnnie Thompson, Bobby White, Charlene Beec...
