MEMORIAL RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE OF CARTELLA D. JENNINGS
WHEREAS, Almighty God, in His infinite wisdom and judgment has called to eternal rest Cartella D. Jennings, who was an outstanding and beloved Chicago citizen and friend on Tuesday, November 11, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Cartella was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 17,1927, and was the loving and devoted daughter of Mann and Johnnie Mae Glover; and
WHEREAS, Cartella was a lifelong Chicagoan, south side resident, and proud graduate of Forrestville Elementary School, Wendell Phillips High School, and later attended Wilson Junior College; and
WHEREAS, Cartella was united in holy matrimony to the late Anderson Jennings at the historic Liberty Baptist Church of Chicago, which is located in the Bronzeville community she treasured; and
WHEREAS, Cartella was a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church until her death and where members of her family have worshipped, and continue to worship, for the past 80 years; and
WHEREAS, Cartella was a strong, committed community advocate whose love for history, music, culture, and activism in civil/human rights and social justice issues were well known and respected by many; and
WHEREAS, Cartella was also a dynamically respectable City of Chicago employee who served in the Chicago Department of Public Health in various administrative and managerial positions for over thirty years; and
WHEREAS, Cartella started at the Contagious Disease Hospital as a principal clerk and retired as a Health Clinic Coordinator for several city-operated health clinic facilities in Bronzeville located near the former Robert Taylor and Stateway Gardens housing developments; and
WHEREAS, Post-retirement, she concluded her tour of work duty as an administrator at a local black-owned private school; and
WHEREAS, Cartella Jennings was a vital, active and respectable citizen who resided in the Third Ward for several years; and
