RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, William E. Murphy has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-nine; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, William E. Murphy was a retired high-ranking member of the Chicago Police Department and the devoted husband for sixty-four years of Eleanor, nee Costello; and
WHEREAS, William E. Murphy was the much-adored father of Maureen, Marilyn, Madalyn and Michelle, the grandfather of twelve and the greatgrandfather of eleven; and
WHEREAS, William E. Murphy enjoyed a long and illustrious career with the Chicago Police Department during which he rose to become Deputy Chief of Detectives; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his esteemed tenure, William E. Murphy upheld the highest and most noble traditions of public service; and
WHEREAS, William E. Murphy bravely served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps during World War II; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of William E. Murphy serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared William E. Murphy to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, William E. Murphy imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of February, 2013, do hereby commemorate William E. Murphy for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Williarn^E. Murphy.
