RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Devaney has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of seventy-two; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Devaney was the beloved daughter of the late Frank and Susan Devaney; and
WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Devaney was the loving sister of Susan, and the late Kathleen and Patricia, and the much-adored aunt to many nieces and nephews; and
WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Devaney lived for years on the northwest side of Chicago, and was a graduate of Notre Dam High School; and
WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Devaney spent virtually her entire career in Chicago's City Hall, working for years in the Corporation Counsel's office before becoming an administrative assistant to Mayor Richard M. Daley; and
WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Devaney inspired the lives of countless people through her great personal goodness, charity and concern; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Mary Ellen Devaney serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Her love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Mary Ellen Devaney to her family members, friends and all who knew her, and enabled her to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Devaney will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and colleagues; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Mary Ellen Devaney imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this ninth day of February, 2011, do hereby commemorate Mary Ellen Devaney for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mary Ellen Devaney.
