RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Active community member and longtime Chicagoan, Minor Allen, Sr., will celebrate his 80th Birthday on December 1, 2016; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this special occasion by the Honorable Derrick Curtis, Alderman of the 18th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Symbolic of the strength and solidity of family life, Minor and his (late) wife of 56 years, Ollie, were blessed with three adoring children; Minor, Jr., Mark, Michele and two precious grandchildren, DaNia and Markus; and
WHEREAS, A man of great integrity and resilient work ethics, Minor served as Restaurant and Banquet Facility Manager at the McCormick Hotel in Chicago for over 30 years and later, became Manager of Rev. Johnnie Coleman's Banquet Facility. He was co-owner of the first Dixie Kitchen Restaurant in Hyde Park and owner of the former Sportsman Lounge and Deli; and
WHEREAS, A man of great hope and vision, he marched with Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Chicago; was a member of Dr. King's Chicago SCLC "Operation Breadbasket" headquarters and a founding member of Operation PUSH under Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr.; and
WHEREAS, A man of great dedication and faith, Minor was a founding member of the original St. James Church of God in Christ and current founding member of The Sion Temple Church of God in Christ; and
WHEREAS, Minor, the remarkable person that he has remained today is an inspiration to all who have reached their octogenarian years and is a treasured matriarch to his grateful family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Cognizant of the history to which Minor Allen, Sr. has both witnessed and contributed, the Chicago City Council believes that Minor is richly deserving of the adulation and good wishes he is offered as he celebrates his 80th birthday; now, therefore,
