RESOLUTION TO CONGRATULATE JEFFERSON PARK RESIDENT AND
PUERTO RICAN NATIONAL TEAM PLAYER DEANNA ORTIZ
WHEREAS, Deanna Ortiz will leave Chicago at the end of March, 2013, to join the Puerto Rican national basketball team for the second time in her basketball career. Raised in Jefferson Park, she has been playing basketball since she was six years old; and,
WHEREAS, Deanna Ortiz attended Resurrection High School, where she continues to hold the record for career rebounds, as well as DePaul University, where she earned the Big East Women's Basketball Sportsmanship Award; and,
WHEREAS, Deanna Ortiz has been described by those close to her as a down-to-earth, caring, and humble human being. Her former DePaul University basketball coach was quoted as calling Deanna "an unbelievably great human being. She's out for the other person more than she cares about herself ; and,
WHEREAS, Deanna Ortiz learned the game at a young age on a wooden backboard that still hangs over her family's garage in Jefferson Park. She loved the game so much that she spent countless hours on the weekend with her parents practicing and studying the game; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED That we, the Mayor and members ofthe City Council, gathered together this 13th day of March 2013 AD, do hereby congratulate Deanna Ortiz on her many accomplishments and wish her the best in her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Deanna Ortiz.
