RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Chicago Metropolitan area has the largest and most established Polish community in the world outside of Poland, and,
WHEREAS, Chicago's history and cultural wealth have been shaped and enriched by Polish-Americans and their commitment to helping make our city a better place to live, work, and raise families; and,
WHEREAS, The Alliance of Polish Clubs in the United States and the Polish-American community continue their tradition in celebrating the 225th anniversary of Polish Constitution Day; and,
WHEREAS, This year's celebration ofthe Polish Constitution of 1791 will be held on Saturday, May 7th, 2016, on a new route , along State Street, from Lake Street to Van Buren St; and,
WHEREAS, This 125th anniversary of the Chicago parade is in honor of the first democratic constitution in Europe, and the world's second, following the 1788 ratification ofthe United States Constitution; and,
WHEREAS, Every year, the parade gathers thousands of people devoted to Polonia and Poland, and thousands more are expected to be drawn to the television coverage ofthe parade provided by Polish TV stations; and,
WHEREAS, This year, the Polish Constitution Day Committee honors Jan Krawiec as the 2016 Grand Marshall and Anna Maria Anders and Lucyna Migala as Vice-Marshalls. Ada Ezlakowska is the Queen of the Polish Constitution Day Parade; and,
WHEREAS, This year's parade motto is "1050 Years of Poland;" and now therefore, /
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this 18th day of May 2016 A.D., do hereby call public attention to the 125th anniversary of Chicago's Polish Constitution Day Parade; and,
