WHEREAS, On Monday, January 19, 2015, the Almighty God, in His infinite wisdom called Haydees Kitchens (Dee) to her eternal journey; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Lona Lane, Alderman of the 18th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Dee was born on July 18, 1947 in Las Piedras, Puerto Rico to Generoso Cruz Velazquez and Saturnina Mojica Santana. She was raised along with her six siblings; and

WHEREAS, at the age of four, Dee's family relocated to Chicago, Illinois. She attended Chicago's public schools and in 1965, she graduated from Marshall High School.

WHEREAS, in 1965, Dee met the love of her life, Andrew C. Kitchens while they were both employed at Sears, Roebuck and Company. Realizing they were soul mates, they married two short years later on New Year's Eve in 1967. Three beautiful children were born from their union; and

WHEREAS, The Kitchens household was always filled with love and it wasn't long before it became an oasis in the neighborhood. They welcomed everyone with open arms. Dee had an insatiable love of life. When it came to traveling, visiting with family, spending time with her grandchildren, volunteering at church or enjoying a delicious meal she was always ready to go. She seemed to have an unlimited supply of energy and never grew tired of doing the things she loved. Dee became a devoted Catholic at a very young age but in 2013 she recommitted her life to Christ. That year she was baptized at her church, Christian Life Center where she was an enthusiastic volunteer in the nursery and outreach ministries; and

WHEREAS, Dee was preceded in death by her loving husband, Andrew; parents, Generoso and Saturnina; sisters, Gregoria and Virginia; and leaves behind precious cherished memories for her three children, Francine, Anthony (Monique) and Maritza; three grandsons, Luis, Gabriel and TJ; one great-grand-daughter, Kaelyn; siblings, Benjamin, Luz Maria, Augustin and Carmen Iris; sister-in-law, Gloria Bizzl...
