RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, Kate Maehr, the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Chicago Food Depository, has been named a recipient of the 2017 Peggy A. Montes Unsung Heroine Award presented by the Cook County Commission on Women's Issues; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this honor by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Kate Maehr is Cook County's leading voice in the fight against hunger; and

WHEREAS, As head of the Greater Chicago Food Depository, Kate Maehr oversees an organization that provides the equivalent of 160,000 meals a day for struggling neighbors; and

WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Kate Maehr since 2006, the Food Depository expanded to meet the rising needs of the community, increased distribution of fresh produce to 25 million pounds annually and developed innovative responses to the root causes of hunger; and

WHEREAS, As an advocate for anti-hunger policy, Kate Maehr has testified before Congress, the Illinois General Assembly and the Cook County Board of Commissioners; and

WHEREAS, Kate Maehr serves as Co-Chair of the Illinois Commission to End Hunger and as a member of the State of Illinois Social Services Advisory Council; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Kate Maehr serve as an example to all; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-second day of February, 2017, do hereby officially recognize Kate Maehr for her charitable work on behalf of the needy of the Chicago metropolitan area and do herby congratulate her on receiving The Unsung Heroine Award; and

 

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Kate Maehr.
