RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Harrison I. Steans, the legendary Chicago banker and devoted community philanthropist, has been named a recipient of the 2017 Order of Lincoln Award by the Lincoln Academy of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his honor by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, The Order of Lincoln is the State of Illinois' highest award given to individuals whose achievements and contributions to the betterment of society have brought honor to the state; and

WHEREAS, Harrison I. Steans grew up in Springfield, Illinois, and is the son of an Illinois Bell middle manager; and

WHEREAS, Harrison I. Steans secured a Naval scholarship and graduated cum laude from Princeton University in 1957 with a B.A. degree in economics; and

WHEREAS, Harrison I. Steans was the Chairman of NBD Illinois, Inc. for more than 20 years, and saw the organization grow from a single $40 million bank to a six-bank holding company with assets exceeding $1.8 billion; and

WHEREAS, While Chairman of NBD Illinois, Harrison I. Steans was Chairman of LaSalle National Bank from 1973 through 1978; and

WHEREAS, Harrison I. Steans served as Director of Provost Holdings LLC, Elektra Holding Company LLC, Boulevard Healthcare LLC, and USAmeribancorp Inc.; and

WHEREAS, Harrison I. Steans is the current Chairman of the Executive Committee of Financial Investments Corporations (FIC); and

WHEREAS, Harrison I. Steans is also President and CEO of the Steans Family Foundation which concentrates its grant making and programs to the betterment of the North Lawndale community; and

WHEREAS, Harrison I. Steans serves on the Board of Directors for the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago, the Chicago Humanities Festival, the Chicago Botanic Garden and the Ounce of Prevention Fund; and

WHEREAS, Harrison I. Steans is a Life Trustee of DePaul University, Highland Park Hospital, and the Ravinia Festival; now, therefore
