RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, The Honorable John E. Gow has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable John E. Gow was a former Elmhurst Alderman and the loving husband of former DuPage County Board member Olivia Gow; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable John E. Gow was the much-adored father of John and Anne and the grandfather of one to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, A widely admired educator and civic leader, the Honorable John E. Gow taught speech communications for 32 years at Elmhurst College; and

WHEREAS, After retiring as a college professor, the Honorable John E. Gow embarked on a second career in public service as a member of the Elmhurst City Council; and

WHEREAS, During his twelve-year tenure as an elected official, the Honorable John E. Gow earned a reputation as a preservationist for his efforts to save historic gems in the suburb; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable John E. Gow chaired the City's Development, Planning 85 Zoning Committee and spearheaded passage of Elmhurst's historic preservation ordinance which protects historic buildings; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable John E. Gow serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable John E. Gow to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable John E. Gow will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable John E. Gow imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
