TRIBUTE TO THE LIFE OF EVELYN IRIS BROWN

WHEREAS, In His Infinite Wisdom, Almighty God has called Evelyn Iris Brown, an outstanding citizen and member of her community, to her eternal rest, March 19, 2015; and

WHEREAS, In Northport, Alabama on April 25, 1940, Robert Mayfieid and Estella Juanita Mayfieid held their newborn daughter, Evelyn Iris; and

WHEREAS, In 1943, Evelyn along with her parents and her uncle Clinton Mayfieid, moved to Chicago and into their new community on Chicago's Westside. The family prospered and within this warm and loving home two more children were born; Helen and Kathy; and

WHEREAS, In 1957, Evelyn Iris matured into a young woman with an abundance of grace, charm, patience and wisdom and she soon captured the heart of the man who was to become her husband, Henderson Brown. Symbolic of the strength and solidity of family life, Evelyn was joined in Holy Matrimony to Henderson Brown and to this union three children were born; Rodney, Robin and Rory. The Brown Family moved to Chicago's Southside in 1965 and became faithful and active members of St. Ailbe's Parish. Shortly after the move, Evelyn began her career at the U.S. Post Office in downtown Chicago. She started as a mail clerk and retired as the Finance Director. After thirty years of dedication on the job, Evelyn retired to spend more quality time with her family; and

WHEREAS, Evelyn's most enduring legacy is her family. She believed that a quality education was the foundation for a successful future and made certain that her children took advantage of every opportunity afforded them. Evelyn received a B.A. in Accounting from Chicago State University in 1983, while she also worked full-time and raised three young children. She continued her education and received a Master's degree in Public Administration from Roosevelt University; and
