Title: Recognition extended to Officer Frank Balestri for continuing tradition of preparing handmade Italian soppressata

HONORING FRANK BALESTRI AND HIS SOPPRESSATA
 
 
 
WHEREAS, Frank Balestri, born in the Bridgeport neighborhood and an officer the Chicago Police Department, is known throughout his community as the "Supersod" king; and
 
WHEREAS, Soppressata is a traditional Italian salami made from seasoned ground pork butt that is cured for approximately two months. Officer Balestri continues the making of this hard sausage as a part of retaining the traditions of his Italian ancestry; and
 
WHEREAS, Frank Balestri also has organized the Annual Soppressata Contest for the past six years as a means of raising funds for the 100 Club of Chicago and the Police Memorial Fund that provide for the families of firefighters, paramedics, and police officers killed in the line of duty; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert Fioretti, Alderman of the 2nd Ward has apprised this august body of this noteworthy tradition and praiseworthy achievement; now therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the City of Chicago City Council, gathered here on this 10th day of April, 2013 A.D., do recognize and commend officer Frank Balestri for keeping the tradition of the famous Italian soppressata alive in the City of Chicago and express our gratitude for his generous contributions to such a worthy cause.
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Frank Balestri.
