A Resolution by the City Council of Chicago Honoring the workers of CANTV on their Vote to form a union with NABET-CWA

Whereas, the hardworking employees at CAN TV voted 17 to 2 in an NLRB Secret Ballot election on August 14, 2015 to form a Union and be represented by the National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians, a sector of the Communications Workers of America, (NABET-CWA) Local 41, the Broadcast Union;

Whereas, NABET-CWA is a National Union Organization that strives to provide its members with a sense of pride and dignity in the workplace, while maintaining quality work conditions and fair wages.

Whereas, NABET-CWA Local 41 members include Technical Employees, Producers, Writers and Couriers employed by ABC, NBC, FOX, TELEMUNDO, UNIVISION, as well as production and crewing companies throughout the Midwest;

Whereas, the CAN TV employees organized as a Union in order to have a voice at the workplace and to improve their wages, hours and working conditions;

Whereas, more than 80 community groups, organizations, activists and religious groups joined the CAN TV employees in solidarity for their fight to Unionize;

Whereas, through their hard work and dedication, the CAN TV employees give voice to the voiceless across the City of Chicago;

Whereas, CAN TV employees present news, information and events that are important for the residents of Chicago and that are seldom covered by Chicago's mainstream media;

Be it resolved that the City of Chicago congratulate NABET-CWA and the CAN TV employees for their success in organizing the CAN TV workplace as a Union and their fight for workers1 rights in Chicago; and be it further resolved that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the workers of NABET-CWA.
