RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Jerome T. Burke has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Jerome T. Burke was a widely admired member of the judiciary and the devoted husband of Patricia; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Jerome T. Burke was the much-adored father of Thomas, Aaron, John and Victoria and the much-adored grandfather of eight to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Jerome T. Burke was the dear brother of Edmund, Frances and Richard; and
WHEREAS, Raised in the Rogers Park neighborhood, the Honorable Jerome T. Burke graduated from the University of Notre Dame and Chicago Kent College of Law; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Jerome T. Burke was an attorney with the law firm of Arvey, Hodes before joining the judiciary in 1973; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Jerome T. Burke served as a Cook County Circuit Court Judge until his retirement from the bench in 1998; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Jerome T. Burke performed many weddings over the years and was the author of the book, "Black Point" which was set in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, where he spent his boyhood summers; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Jerome T. Burke serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Jerome T. Burke imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of March, 2013, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Jerome T. Burke for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Jerome T. Burke.
