RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Richard and Maryjeanne Burke have been honored at the Celebration of Mundelein and chosen as the recipients of the Christo Gloria Award; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Celebration of Mundelein - An Evening of Tribute, is a festive occasion that honors individuals for their services to the Church and celebrates the supporters of the Mundelein Seminary community; and
WHEREAS, Richard and Maryjeanne Burke attended the University of Notre Dame and Saint Mary's College, respectively, and have maintained deep roots in the Catholic Church; and
WHEREAS, Maryjeanne Burke taught high school and junior high catechesis classes at St. Luke Parish for students who did not attend Catholic school, started a pre-school and kindergarten faith program at the parish and created the Ministry of Care program which brings the Eucharist to the homebound and hospital patients; and
WHEREAS, Richard Burke was the first lay lector at St. Luke's and helped to start the lector program; and
WHEREAS, Both Richard and Maryjeanne Burke are involved with Catholic Charities where Richard has served as Board Chairman and Maryjeanne has served on the advisory board and they were the first Chair-couple to found the annual St. Nicholas Ball; and
WHEREAS, In 1996 Richard Burke joined the Board of Advisors for the University of Saint Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary and served as Vice Chairman until 2013; and
WHEREAS, Richard Burke is the founder of Burke, Warren, MacKay and Serritella, PC, a Chicago law firm that focuses on the needs of businesses and not-for-profit organizations and is on the advisory board for the Law School at the University of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Maryjeanne Burke is currently a board member of the National Catholic Reporter and the Office of Immigration Affairs and Immigration Education of the Archdiocese of Chicago; and
