RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Jean Marie Burke Foran has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Jean Marie Burke Foran was the loving wife of the late Thomas, a former United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Jean Marie Burke Foran was the much-adored mother of Elizabeth, John, Julie, Edmund, Stephen and Regina, the grandmother of sixteen and the great-grandmother of thirteen to whom she imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that she possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Raised in Chicago, the Honorable Jean Marie Burke Foran graduated from Providence High School and Rosary College in River Forest where she studied speech and drama; and
WHEREAS, In 1975 the Honorable Jean Marie Burke Foran was named by Mayor Richard J. Daley to serve as Chicago Park District Commissioner and became the first woman to hold that post; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Jean Marie Burke Foran fought to keep the Lincoln Park Zoo free to the public and advocated for the return of mounted police units; and
WHEREAS, Along with her husband, the Honorable Jean Marie Burke Foran opened a Montessori School in Cabrini-Green; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Jean Marie Burke Foran served for more than a decade as a consultant to the Village of Rosemont; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Jean Marie Burke Foran serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, the Honorable Jean Marie Burke Foran imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-sixth day of July, 2017, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Jean Marie Burke Foran for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
