RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Morton Smith has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-seven; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Morton Smith was the loving and devoted husband of the late *v Lois; and
WHEREAS, Morton Smith was the much-adored father of Shepard, Sheri and Matthew to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities which he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Morton Smith was the devoted brother to two sisters, and the beloved grandfather of four grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, A veteran of World War II, Morton Smith was among the first wave of soldiers to make an amphibious landing at Leyte Gulf in the Philippines, which was among the largest naval battles in United States history; and
WHEREAS, In August of 2010, Morton Smith was awarded the Bronze Star for his military service; and
WHEREAS, After his discharge from the military, Morton Smith studied at Northwestern University and co-founded Yale Engineering Company where he developed and marketed automotive repair products; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Morton Smith serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Morton Smith to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Morton Smith will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and colleagues; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Morton Smith imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this ninth day of February , 2011, do hereby commemorate Morton Smith for his grace-fiiled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
