RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Henry R. Garavaglia has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-seven; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Downers Grove, Henry R. Garavaglia was the loving and devoted husband of Joan; and
WHEREAS, Henry R. Garavaglia was the much-adored father of Mark and Margaret, to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities which he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Henry R. Garavaglia was the beloved grandfather of three grandsons; and
WHEREAS, Henry R. Garavaglia served as a Joliet firefighter for nearly four decades and achieved the rank of Captain; and
WHEREAS, An excellent firehouse cook, Henry R. Garavaglia delighted his fellow firefighters with his Italian home-cooked meals; and
WHEREAS,; Henry R. Garavaglia served for four years in the U.S. Navy before joining the Joliet Fire Department in 1950; and
WHEREAS, Henry R. Garavaglia was named Firefighter of the Year in 1979 by the Exchange Club of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Henry R. Garavaglia inspired the lives of countless people through his great personal goodness, charity and concern; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Henry R. Garavaglia serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Henry R. Garavaglia will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and colleagues; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Henry R. Garavaglia imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of April, 2011, do hereby commemorate Henry R. Garavaglia for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Hefliry R. Garavaglia.
