RESOLUTION CELEBRATING THE 65TH ANNIVERSARY OF LANG EXTERIOR, INC.
WHEREAS, Lang Exterior, Inc. was formed by 1953 by Eugene Lang and is celebrating its 65th anniversary; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed body has been informed of Lang Exterior's milestone by the Honorable Toni Foulkes, Alderman of the 16th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Eugene Lang was a proud World War II Veteran credited with inventing the T-Wrench for establishing the depth and speed a torpedo would be fired; and
WHEREAS, After the war Eugene was a Kirby vacuum salesman. He then started selling windows door-to-door during the day. He manufactured the windows at home in the evening and installed them in his customers' homes. Eugene was dedicated to providing safe, reliable and affordable windows. Initially he was selling principally aluminum windows and awnings, later becoming a leader in vinyl, energy efficient windows; and
WHEREAS, Eugene was so successful that he incorporated Lang Exterior in 1953, operating in a small garage at 65th Street and Western Avenue selling only aluminum storm windows. Business expansion caused a move to larger facilities at 71st Street and Western Avenue. Lang Exterior later moved to 47th Street and Western Avenue, while finally locating at its long-time current home at 59th Street and Western Avenue. In 2012, the company opened a new showroom at its headquarters; and
WHEREAS, The company manufactures vinyl windows and doors. The company is one of the leading suppliers of replacement windows in the Midwest; and
WHEREAS, Eugene's son, Darb Lang, currently is the President of Lang Exterior with an ongoing commitment to quality and service; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the City Council of the City of Chicago, this 28th day of March, 2018, recognize Lang Exterior, Inc. for its lasting contributions to our City and wholeheartedly congratulate Lang Exterior on this milestone anniversary.
