RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Captain William E. Noel has officially announced his retirement as a decorated and highly valued member of the United States Navy's Expeditionary Combat Command, N7-Training Department; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his retirement by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, Captain William E. Noel enlisted in the United States Navy in 1979 and attended basic training in San Diego, California with subsequent training at Naval Training Command, Great Lakes; and
WHEREAS, Captain William E. Noel's first sea assignment was on the USS Canopus based in Charleston, South Carolina; and
WHEREAS, Captain William E. Noel was transferred to the USS Orion stationed in La Madalena, Italy before returning to the Canopus; and
WHEREAS, Captain William E. Noel graduated from Naval School Explosive Ordinance Disposal in Indian Head, Maryland and was assigned to the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Mobile Unit; and
WHEREAS, During his long and illustrious career, Captain William E. Noel completed deployments aboard the USS Coral Sea, the USS Iowa, the USS Mount Baker and bravely served his country in Iraq, where he utilized his extensive training and experience as an explosive ordinance disposal expert; and
WHEREAS, Captain William E. Noel served as Commanding Officer of Explosive Ordinance Disposal Training and Evaluation Unit Two; and
WHEREAS, Captain William E. Noel additionally commanded Naval School Explosive Ordinance Disposal before retiring from the staff of the Navy Expeditionary Combat Command; and
WHEREAS, Captain William E. Noel is a recipient of the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal and the Navy Achievement Medal; and

WHEREAS, The courage, patriotism and dedication of Captain William E. Noel serve as an example to all; now, therefore
