RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The City of Chicago and the members of its esteemed diplomatic community are privileged to bid a fond farewell to Aidan Cronin who has served with distinction as the Consul General of Ireland in Chicago since 2011; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this auspicious event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, In the course of his assignment in Chicago, Aidan Cronin focused on strengthening Ireland-U.S. economic, trade and investment links across the Midwest and supported efforts to reform U.S. immigration legislation as well as promote Irish culture; and
WHEREAS, A native of Cork, Aidan Cronin earned his undergraduate and civil law degrees from University College Cork and qualified as a solicitor in 1993; and
WHEREAS, Aidan Cronin began his diplomatic career with the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1995; and
WHEREAS, Aidan Cronin served during his diplomatic tenure in Irish embassies in China, Iran and Australia and as Private Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs; and
WHEREAS, In his role as a diplomat, Aidan Cronin has sought to foster a greater and deeper understanding between all nations and has done so with great intelligence, grace and charismatic style; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Aidan Cronin serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Aidan Cronin is a widely recognized member of the diplomatic community who is richly deserving of our admiration and respect; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixth day of May, 2015, do hereby extend our most sincere gratitude to Aidan Cronin for his tireless service as the Consul General of Ireland in Chicago and do hereby express our best wishes for his continued success and achievement; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Aidan Cronin.
