MEMORIAL RESOLUTION HONORING HATTIE P. MARKS


WHEREAS, God in His infinite wisdom has chosen to call His precious daughter, Hattie P. Marks home to her eternal reward, Wednesday, October 14, 2015; and

WHEREAS, This honorable body has been informed of her transition by the Honorable Michelle A. Harris, Alderman of the 8th Ward and the Chairman of the Committee on Committees, Rules and Ethics; and

WHEREAS, Wiley and Alice Pinkard Rowe of LaGrange, Georgia became the proud parents of their loving daughter, Hattie on January 12, 1922. She and her ten siblings, EC, John, Emily, Mary, Sarah, Fred, Wiley, Josephine, Helen and Lorene brought happiness and joy into the family home; and

WHEREAS, Hattie moved to Chicago in 1949 and accepted and rejoiced in God, and her faith carried her through the trials and tribulations of life. She was a faithful member of the Greater Salem Baptist Church choir and sang at the funeral of the late great Mahalia Jackson; and

WHEREAS, Hattie and Henry Burton were united in marriage and to this union a son was born, Napoleon. In 1952, Hattie married her hometown sweetheart, Gus Marks, and from this union three sons were born, Gus Jr., Chester and Travis; and

WHEREAS, Gus and Hattie Marks blissfully shared twenty-two years of happiness and togetherness. Their loving marriage ended when the Lord called Gus to his eternal reward in 1974. Gus and Hattie ran a successful family owned janitorial business and employed family and neighbors; and

WHEREAS, A cherished friend and good neighbor to all, Hattie P. Marks had enriched the lives of the young and the old. She will be deeply missed but the memory of her character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved her; and

WHEREAS, Hattie P. Marks was a vital member of her family and community. She leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life her loving sons, Napoleon, Chester, Gus Jr. (Jacqueline) and Travis (Debra); four siblings, Josephine Holliday, Helen Rutled...
