Congratulating the Ewe Association of Chicago on Hosting the 20 Annual CEANA Convention
 
WHEREAS, Beginning on August 3tfh and running through September 2nd, the Ewe Association of Chicago will host the Council of Ewe Associations of North America's (CEANA) 2tfh annual convention;
 
WHEREAS, CEANA is the national organization for Ewe descendants from West Africa, with an organizational mission of bringing together Ewes from across North America for the economic development and social progress of the Eweland in West Africa;
 
WHEREAS, The CEANA annual convention brings together twenty Ewe Associations from across North America to share their ideas about issues that affect the Eweland of Ghana, Togo and Benin;
 
WHEREAS, The theme of this year's convention is "Youth, Education and Cultural Empowerment," which has been a focus of many policy ideas here in the City of Chicago;
 
WHEREAS, CEANA has a proven track record of helping solve issues in West Africa, including by donating $3.4 million in medical equipment to nine West African hospitals and through the construction of a three classroom block in Ghana;
 
WHEREAS, The convention will feature not only policy-making, but cultural events such as a parade of Eweland chiefs, queen-mothers and dignitaries, sampling traditional Eweland cuisine, an all-day picnic and an evening gala;
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, assembled here this 26th Day of June, 2013 AD, congratulate the Ewe Association of Chicago on hosting the 20th Annual CENA Convention;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to MacGeoffrey Kutor, President of the Ewe Association of Chicago, to share with the guests at the convention.
