CONGRATULATING THE APARTMENT BUILDING OWNERS AND MANAGERS ASSOCIATION ON THE OCCASION OF THEIR DIAMOND ANNIVERSARY
WHEREAS, The Apartment Building Owners and Managers Association (ABOMA) is celebrating its Diamond Anniversary of representing the owners and managers of some of the premiere residential buildings in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, ABOMA is a non-profit organization that advises and assists its members, engages in collective bargaining on their behalf, lobbies the various regulatory agencies against actions that are harmful to building managers and owners interests and generally promotes their welfare and interests; and
WHEREAS, ABOMA was founded in 1937, At its first meeting on April 23, it established the first lease form and the first collective bargaining agreement; and
WHEREAS, Some of ABOMA's first commercial member buildings were Farr & Company, Cochran & McCluer Company, Sudler & Company, The Real Estate Bureau of Chicago, Inc., the Marshall Field Estate, Hogan & Farwell, Quinlan & Tyson, Inc. and Barid & Warner, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, Residential buildings such as 3300 Lake Shore Drive Building Corporation, 209 Lake Shore Drive Building Corporation, 1320 North State Street, 1530 North State Parkway, 1500 Lake Shore Drive and 232 East Walton Place have been members of ABOMA for the last 75 years; and
WHEREAS, The ABOMA changed its name in 1976 to Apartment Building Owners and Managers Association of Illinois to encompass a larger service area; and
WHEREAS, ABOMA currently represents, in membership, 429 high rise buildings and walk-up residential buildings containing 95,000 units with approximately 200,000 residents; and
WHEREAS, ABOMA negotiates four separate labor agreements: the SEIU Local 1 Building Services Division three-year contract covering janitorial employees in high rise residential buildings, a three year contract covering doormen and receiving room employees in residential buildings, a three-year contract covering janitorial employees in walk-up ...
