RECOGNITION TO CITY OF CHICAGO STREETS AND SANITATION EMPLOYES
ORLEAN WlLLIAMS AND LINDA PAIGE
WHEREAS, it is our highest regard and honor to recognize City of Chicago employees, Orlean Willaims and Linda Paige, for their exemplary action while working for the Department of Streets and Sanitation; and
WHEREAS, this august body has been informed of this heroic act by the Honorable Toni Foulkes, Alderman ofthe 15th Ward; and
WHEREAS, in the morning hours of July 31, 2014, Department of Streets and Sanitation employees Orlean Williams, Motor Truck Driver, and Linda Paige, Laborer, both from Division 7, began a normal day at work, never imagining they would be at the right location at the right time, and find themselves in a position of heroism; and
WHEREAS, Williams'and Paige, setting out on their morning duties, decided to take a slightly different direction to their route after Williams suggested an alternate course; and
WHEREAS, traveling down Marshfield Avenue, the driver witnessed smoke coming from a building located at 6733 S. Marshfield. Alarmed and concerned for those inside, the driver immediately stopped the truck; and
WHEREAS, without hesitation or concern for their own safety, both employees ran to alert the occupants of the building and summon assistance; and
WHEREAS, the exemplary courage by Orlean Williams and Linda Paige were lifesaving for residents who were able to escape and avoid what could have been a devastating tragedy; and
WHEREAS, the actions of these employees were exemplary displays of courage, quick thinking, and readiness to help others when in need, and the City of Chicago is proud to call them employees, taking their calling of public service above and beyond; now, therefore
