RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Ride for AIDS Chicago is a yearly two-day, 200 mile bicycling fundraising event produced by TP AN (Test Positive Aware Network) in which 100% of the participant-generated money raised goes to providing services to people with HIV/AIDS; and,
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed ofthe prestigious event by the Honorable Ariel E. Reboyras, Alderman of the 30th Ward, Honorable Thomas Tunney, Alderman of the 44th Ward, Honorable Daniel S. Solis, Alderman ofthe 25th Ward, Honorable James Cappleman, Alderman ofthe 46th Ward, Honorable Deborah Mell, Alderman ofthe 33rd Ward, Honorable Brendan Reilly, Alderman ofthe 42nd Ward, Honorable Carlos Ramirez-Rosa, Alderman ofthe 35th Ward, Honorable Raymond A. Lopez, Alderman ofthe 15th Ward; and,
WHEREAS, Ride for AIDS Chicago and its' community partners, About Face Theatre, Aids Foundation of Chicago, Center on Halsted, Chicago House, Fred Says, and Howard Brown Health help spread awareness about HIV/AIDS, raise much needed funds for HIV/AIDS services, and help diminish the stigma and shame associated with HIV/AIDS; and,
WHEREAS, This year, Ride for AIDS Chicago is celebrating its fourteenth anniversary with more than 400 registered participants and hundreds of volunteers; and,
WHEREAS, Over its' fourteenth year history, Ride for AIDS Chicago has raised over 4.5 million for HIV/AIDS services; and,
WHEREAS, Ride for AIDS Chicago will be held during the weekend of July 8 and 9, 2017; and,
WHEREAS, TPAN, the organization producing the Ride, has been serving the HIV/AIDS community in Chicago for more than 30 years; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this twenty-eighth day of June 2017, salute Ride for AIDS Chicago 2017 participants and volunteers on their commitment in the fight against HIV/AIDS; and,
