RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, the Members ofthis Chamber are pleased to congratulate Hugo Zapata-Martinez, Senior Procurement Specialist for the Department of Procurement Services, on the occasion of his retirement; and

WHEREAS, the Chicago City Council has been informed of his retirement by the Honorable James M. Gardiner, Alderman of the 45th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Zapata-Martinez grew up in the Logan Square community, in a Cuban-American family with a strong work and educational ethic; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Zapata-Martinez graduated from Carl Schurz High School in 1981, and completed his B.A. degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1986; and

WHEREAS, during his 30 years of government service, Mr. Zapata-Martinez advanced to the position of Senior Certification Officer, and later to Contract Negotiator; and

WHEREAS, in his current position Mr. Zapata-Martinez was responsible for managing the procurement process for thirty-four City departments from inception through award; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure at the Department of Procurement Services, Mr. Zapata-Martinez had awarded major contracts for the City of Chicago such as Shuttle Bus Services for Chicago Midway Airport, the Blue Cart Recycling Program and the Citywide Water Meter Installation Program; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Zapata-Martinez's special reputation within the City was enhanced by his expertise, competence, meticulous attention to detail and dedicated commitment to the citizens of Chicago; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and the members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this 23rd day of March, do hereby honor and express our deepest appreciation to Hugo Zapata-Martinez for his distinguished service to our City's government, and further extend to him our very best wishes for a wonderful retirement; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy ofthis resolution be prepared and presented to Hugo Zapata-Martinez.
