SALUTE TO THE 100m ANNIVERSARY OF SAINT PASCAL CATHOLIC CHURCH
WHEREAS, Saint Pascal Catholic Church, an outstanding spiritual icon of this city's Northwest Side, is celebrating one hundred years of continuous and outstanding community service; and
WHEREAS, Saint Pascal's Catholic Church was first organized by Reverend George P. Heimsath on September 7, 1914 at the intersection of Irving Park Road and Narragansett Avenue. A century later, the parish has reached approximately 50,000 members and greatly contributes to the area's growth and prosperity. Throughout its history, the parish has expanded its social service and offers a wide variety of activities for all ages in order to serve the community; and
WHEREAS, Several pastors such as Reverend Thaddeus J. Neckerman, Reverend Francis A. Ciezadlo, Reverend Gary A. Miller, Reverend Gary Lewanski, and current pastor Reverend Paul G. Seaman have taken up the mission set forth by Father Heimsath after his passing on January 25, 1959;and
WHEREAS, On April 8, 1977, Pope John Paul II elevated a Saint Pascal School graduate and former parishioner, His Eminence Francis Cardinal George, to become Archbishop of Chicago, the first Chicago native to fill that office; and
WHEREAS, Through a century of dramatic change, Saint Pascal Catholic Church has anchored and nurtured the Austin-Irving Neighborhood, providing a center of faith and fellowship. Its parishioners exhibit a profound sense of love, dedication, and spirituality to God and to their fellow human beings; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Timothy M. Cullerton, Alderman ofthe 38th Ward in which St. Pascal's Parish is located, has apprised this august body of the significant milestone reached by this venerable Roman Catholic church; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED That we, the Mayor and members ofthe City of Chicago City Council, gathered here this 11th day of September 2013 A.D., do hereby salute Saint Pascal Catholic Church for a century of praiseworthy spiritual guidance ...
