Declaration of April 2,2014 as "Lazarus Jones Day" in Chicago
WHEREAS, The children of the City of Chicago are its most precious resource and the untimely passing of any one is a tragedy beyond words; and
WHEREAS, Lazarus Anthony Jones was born on June 6, 1993 to Antonio Jones and Pamela A. Hester-Jones; and
WHEREAS, Lazarus Jones attended Budlong Elementary School in Chicago and went to church at the First Baptist Church in Hammond, Indiana; and
WHEREAS, Lazarus Jones was an honor student who enjoyed golf, track, writing, dance bike riding and drawing; and
WHEREAS, On the night of February 20th, 2007 Lazarus Jones' life ended all too early at the age of thirteen; and
WHEREAS, Pamela Hester-Jones, Lazarus's mother and a resident of the 49th Ward of Chicago, has dedicated her life to finding justice for her son and keeping all the children safe from violence of our City; and
WHEREAS, Alderman Joseph A. Moore has apprised this august body of Lazarus Jones and urges his colleagues in the Chicago City Council to prevent violence and make every street safe for our children; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this second day of April 2014 A.D., do hereby recognize today as "Lazarus Jones Day" throughout Chicago; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Lazarus Anthony Jones.
