RESOLUTION TO HONOR SOPHIE DOBOSZ
WHEREAS, Sophie Dobosz was a long time resident of the Logan Square neighborhood and lived on the 2200 block of North Talman Avenue for more than 70 years; and
WHEREAS, Sophie Dobosz showed kindness and compassion to her family, friends and neighbors that created a sense of family and instilled a feeling of unity among neighbors on Talman Avenue, a bond that still exists today; and
WHEREAS, Sophie was born on January 23,1914 in Omaha, Nebraska, and moved to Chicago after a short time in St. Joseph, Missouri, where she performed family chores such as gathering coal for the furnace; and
WHEREAS, she began her career at the Match Corporation, where she met and later married Walter Dobosz; and
WHEREAS, the Doboszs purchased a home at 2200 N. Talman Avenue for $12,000 where they settled and raised their two daughters, Rose and Debbie; and
WHEREAS, the Dobosz family remained at 2200 N. Talman until the untimely passing of Walter Dobosz, at which time the family relocated to 2208 N. Talman, where Debbie raised four children; and
WHEREAS, Sophie Dobosz began working in the neighborhood at Chick's Drive-ln, located at Milwaukee and Prindeville, where she befriended officers of the nearby 14th District Shakespeare Police Station; and
WHEREAS, Sophie Dobosz rightfully earned the moniker the "eyes and ears of Talman", as she provided information to the residents and police officers about crime that happened on Talman; and
WHEREAS, Sophie Dobosz kept the neighborhood tightly knit by remaining a source of neighborhood news and kept her until her passing at 99 years old; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago assembled here this 24th day of July, 2013 express our gratitude to Sophie Dobosz and the entire Dobosz family; and
