RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Fred L. Turner has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Deerfield, Fred L. Turner was the loving and devoted husband of late Patricia, nee Shurtleff; and
WHEREAS, Fred L. Turner was the much-adored father of Paula, Patty and Teri and the grandfather of eight to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Fred L. Turner was a former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Oak Brook-based McDonald's Corporation; and
WHEREAS, Fred L. Turner began his career in 1956 after being discharged from the United States Army when he approached founder Ray Kroc and sought to become a franchise owner; and
WHEREAS, Fred L. Turner instead found himself working behind the counter at the original McDonald's in Des Plaines where he worked alongside employees and taught new hires; and
WHEREAS, In 1961 Fred L. Turner spearheaded the effort to establish McDonald's Hamburger University, a training ground for employees, managers and franchisees; and
WHEREAS, Fred L. Turner wrote the company's training manual that is still a blueprint for the corporation's operations; and
WHEREAS, During his esteemed tenure at the helm of McDonald's, Fred L. Turner expanded the chain's global footprint and more than tripled the number of restaurants; and
WHEREAS, Fred L. Turner was a co-founder and lifetime trustee of the Ronald McDonald House Charities; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Fred L. Turner serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Fred L. Turner imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
