Resolution
WHEREAS, Father Joseph C. Taylor, a widely admired member of the St. Edward Parish community, will celebrate the joyful occasion of his 90th birthday on April 7, 2017; and,
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this special tribute by Alderman Margaret Laurino; and
WHEREAS, Father Taylor earned a M.A. in psychology from Loyola University and was a volunteer at Madden Mental Health Center in the Back of the Yards; and,
WHEREAS, Father Taylor was ordained a priest of Jesus Christ by Samuel Cardinal Stritch on May 9, 1953 for the Archdiocese of Chicago and has served the spiritual welfare of the people of Chicago for more than 60 years; and,
WHEREAS, Father Taylor faithfully served as an associate pastor at St. Thomas the Apostle, St. Cajetan, St. Joseph the Worker, St. Gabriel, St. Catherine and St. Lucy, St. Edward, and as pastor of St. Francis Xavier parishes. Since 1993, Father Taylor has been living and serving as a priest at St. Edward Parish. His untiring devotion to the service of the church and to his community makes him a remarkable spiritual leader; and
WHEREAS, Father Taylor spent 10 years as chaplain of the University of Chicago Clinics, Chicago Osteopathic Hospital, and Illinois Central Hospital and chaplain at the Chicago Home for Incurables. The hard work, sacrifice and holiness of Father Joseph Taylor serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his pastoral duties, Father Taylor is a true renaissance man, enjoying a diverse set of interests. He was a member of our nation's Auxiliary Coast Guard, chaplain and captain of the Sea Scouts, and taught sailing for 30 years; and,
WHEREAS, On Sunday, March 19, 2017, the parish community of Saint Edward will gather together to commemorate Father Joseph Taylor's 90th birthday, giving thanks and well wishes to the beloved pastor; now, therefore
