RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, The Center for Disability and Elder Law will celebrate the occasion of its Thirtieth Anniversary on February 26, 2014, with a special reception to be held at the Baker & McKenzie Law Firm in Chicago; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, The Center for Disability and Elder Law, formerly known as the Legal Clinic, was founded to provide quality legal services at no cost to low-income residents of Cook County who are either elderly or who have permanent disabilities; and
 
WHEREAS, Throughout its history, the Center for Disability and Elder Law has also sought to advance the pro-bono culture; and
 
WHEREAS, Last year the Center for Disability and Elder Law, with its staff of four attorneys and hundreds of volunteers, provided legal services and assistance to more than three-thousand individuals; and
 
WHEREAS, Among its wide range of services, the Center for Disability and Elder Law assists seniors by preparing powers of attorney, health care, property and living will declarations; and
 
WHEREAS, The Center for Disability and Elder Law additionally partners with the Cook County Assessor's and Treasurer's offices to conduct free workshops to help the elderly file all available property tax exemptions in order to avoid losing their homes due to delinquencies; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work and dedication of the Center for Disability and Elder Law serve as an example to all; and
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifth day of February, 2014, do hereby congratulate the Center for Disability and Elder Law on thirty years of dedicated service on behalf of the elderly and disabled in Cook County; and
 
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Anthony J. O'Neill, President of the Governing Board of Directors for the Center for Disability and Elder Law.
