RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, The Reverend John V. Dolciamore has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, A native of the West Side of Chicago, the Reverend John V. Dolciamore was a widely admired member of the religious community; and
 
WHEREAS, The Reverend John V. Dolciamore graduated from Quigley Seminary and St. Mary ofthe Lake/Mundelein Seminary; and
 
WHEREAS, The Reverend John V. Dolciamore was ordained to the priesthood in 1952 and was a recognized expert in canon law; and
 
WHEREAS, While returning from Rome to Chicago on July 25, 1956, the Reverend John V. Dolciamore was aboard the Andrea Doria when the ocean liner collided with another ship in the night; and
 
WHEREAS, The Reverend John V. Dolciamore heard confessions and gave general absolution during the rescue of the ship's passengers; and
 
WHEREAS, The Reverend John V. Dolciamore served for much of his ministry in the Archdiocese of Chicago's Metropolitan Tribunal; and
 
WHEREAS, The Reverend John V. Dolciamore was known for his holiness and compassion; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Reverend John V. Dolciamore imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this seventeenth day of January, 2013, do hereby commemorate the Reverend John V. Dolciamore for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Reverend John V. Dolciamore.
