MEMORIAL RESOLUTION CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF RICHARD V. "DICK" MCDOWELL

WHEREAS, Richard V. "Dick" McDowell, beloved husband, brother, father-uncle, grandfather-great uncle, and uncle, passed away on December 29, 2021 at 91 years of age; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of Dick's passing by the Honorable Samantha Nugent, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and

 

WHEREAS, Dick lived in the Edgebrook neighborhood and was an active member of the 39th Ward community; and

WHEREAS, An architect by trade, Dick designed the first one-story firehouse for the City which became the standard design for firehouses across the country, as it saved firefighters valuable time when responding to calls; and

 

WHEREAS, In his retirement, Dick shared his architectural expertise and sound guidance from 2005 to 2015 by serving in the 39th Ward public service office; and

 

WHEREAS, Dick is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joanne C. "Jody" and his brother, Edward; he leaves to cherish his memories, his brother, Donald "Don" (Faye); daughters-nieces, Jennifer (Rich) Moore, and Amy Giustino; son-nephew, Jeffrey (Veronica) Giustino; great grandchildren-nieces and nephew, Lilian, Emilia, and Dylan; and many more nieces, nephews, and friends; and

WHEREAS, Dick's spirit, sense of humor, generosity and service to the community will be deeply missed by his family, friends, neighbors, and all who loved him; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this twenty-third day of March, 2022, do hereby extend our most heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Richard V. "Dick" McDowell; and
