RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Robert S. Strauss has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Robert S. Strauss was a former United States Ambassador to the Soviet Union and the loving husband of the late Helen; and
WHEREAS, Robert S. Strauss was the much-adored father of three children to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Robert S. Strauss was a former presidential advisor to Jimmy Carter, Ronald Regan and George H.W. Bush and was renowned for bringing together opposing sides and solidifying agreements; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his ambassadorship, Robert S. Strauss was Special Envoy to the Middle East and United States Trade Representative; and
WHEREAS, Widely regarded for his political influence and skill as an attorney, Robert S. Strauss was the co-founder of an international law firm; and
WHEREAS, Robert S. Strauss served as the Chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 1972 to 1977; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of his many contributions to his country, Robert S. Strauss was the 1981 recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest award presented to a civilian; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Robert S. Strauss serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Robert S. Strauss will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Robert S. Strauss imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this second day of April, 2014, do hereby commemorate Robert S. Strauss for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Robert S» ...
