Resolution Honoring Allan Mellis
WHEREAS,^ The Lincoln Park community is noted for the significant level of participation in neighborhood issues by its citizens such as Allan Mellis who is known to many as the Mayor of Lincoln Park; and
WHEREAS, Allan and his wife Linda have lived in Lincoln Park for over thirty-five years and actively involved in the community, while raising their two sons David and Daniel, and
WHEREAS, In addition to his community service as a volunteer, Allan has had accomplished careers in the corporate world, 30 years with IBM, and government service, 13 years as Director of Planning for the Cook County Forest Preserve; and
WHEREAS, Allan became deeply involved in the neighborhood through the Wrightwood Neighbors Conservation Association having served continuously on its board of directors since 1974, as its president in 1976-1978, on its planning committee, and as a leader in the development of Wrightwood's Long Range Plan; and
WHEREAS, As President of the Friends of the New Lincoln Park Library, he led the effort to get a new Lincoln Park Branch Library opened in 1995; and
WHEREAS, As President of Friends of the Fullerton Elevated he served on the CTA's Brown Line Task Force to ensure a new Fullerton Station met the needs of CTA riders and the community; and
WHEREAS, Allan Mellis has served on the neighborhood advisory boards of DePaul University and Children's Memorial Hospital for over 25 years and actively involved in reviewing, negotiating and developing Master Plans for both institutions in Lincoln Park; and
WHEREAS, On May 7, 2011 Allan Mellis will be inducted into the City of Chicago's Senior Citizen Hall of Fame to acknowledge his professional and civic contributions.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that we the Mayor and members ofthe City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this 4th day of May, 2011 do hereby thank and congratulate Allan Mellis on his dedication and service to Lincoln Park Community and to the City of Chicago...
