MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
 
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that members of this Chamber learned of the death of LaVerne M. Damlos, nee Halverson, on April 24, 2015 at the age of ninety; and
 
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of her passing by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
 
WHEREAS, born on October 31,1924, LaVerne was the beloved wife of the late Carl John Damlos; loving mother of the late Jeanne (James) Kukla, Carol, Robert (Valerie), Mary (John) Miller and Carl (Susan) Damlos; cherished grandmother of Amanda and Eric Damlos, Kelly, Jimmy, Brian and Kevin Kukla, Devin and Hannah Miller, Christopher and Carl Damlos; and friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing her; and
 
WHEREAS, LaVerne was a wonderful, interesting, and vibrant woman who gave of herself to so many people. She was the bright light of life that will always be remembered, not only by her family, but by the students whose lives that she helped to shape. She leaves a legacy of faith, compassion, dignity and love; and
 
WHEREAS, LaVerne, an active and vital member of her community, touched the lives of all who knew her through her kindness, her generosity, her smile, her positive attitude, her heart and her spirit. She will be deeply missed, but the memory of her character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved her, now, therefore,
 
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this sixth day of May 2015, do hereby express our sorrow on the death of LaVerne M. Damlos and express to her family and friends our deepest sympathy; and

Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of LaVerne M. Damlos as a token of our honor, gratitude, and respect.
