TRIBUTE TO ARTHUR "GOODIE" GOODWIN
WHEREAS, In His infinite wisdom, almighty God has granted eternal peace to Arthur "Goodie" Goodwin, beloved coach of the Bogan High School Bengals and pillar of the Public League's basketball community, on Friday May 14, 2021; and

WHEREAS Arthur Goodwin's life journey began on February 10, 1967, as the second son of William and Barbara Goodwin. Both parents and an older brother Vincent Goodwin preceded him in passing. Throughout his education, "Goodie", as he was affectionately known, played hoops at Farren Elementary under the guidance of Coach Ham, at DuSable High School under Coach Wright, at South Shore High School with Coach Pittman, and matriculating to Valparaiso University with Coach Homer Drew and Wabash Valley College; and

WHEREAS, until his health failed, Arthur Goodwin was employed with the Chicago Public School system as a manager in the security department. However, it was at the South Side's Bogan High School where he made his most significant contribution as a basketball coach and influencer of the young men's lives who played for him. Coach Goodie led the Bogan Bengal's Varsity High School basketball team to nine regional championships, two sectional titles and a public league championship in 2015. His house was always an open door to his team who spent endless days and nights talking, listening, and discussing sports together. Goodie was a true mentor and father figure to his players whom he loved dearly and used his nurturing spirit to reach them through the game of basketball; and

WHEREAS Arthur Goodwin made many noteworthy civic and political contributions to his community. He was instrumental and active with 21st Century VOTE and United in Peace.
