MEMORIAL RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, it is with great sadness that members of this Chamber learned of the death of Barbara L. Monahan, nee Elsholz, on November 11, 2014 at the age of eighty-four; and

WHEREAS, the City Council has been informed of her passing by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39^th Ward; and

WHEREAS, born on June 14, 1930, Barbara was the beloved wife of the late John T. Monahan; loving mother of John T. (Annie Burns) Monahan, Jr.; devoted grandmother of Maggie and Jack Monahan; dear sister of Joan Diedrich; sister-in-law of Rita (John) Corvino, the late Irene (the late James) Green and the late Helen Claire (the late Stanley) Kusek; fond aunt of many nieces and nephews; and friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Barbara leaves a legacy of faith, dignity, and love; and

WHEREAS, Barbara touched the lives of all who knew her through her kindness and generosity. She will be deeply missed, but the memory of her character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved her; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved, that we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this tenth day of December 2014, do hereby express our sorrow on the death of Barbara L. Monahan and express to her family and friends our deepest sympathy; and

Be It Further Resolved, that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Barbara L. Monahan as a token of our honor, gratitude, and respect.
