RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE OF JACK R. SCHNEIDER
WHEREAS, Jack R. Schneider was born July 13, 1935, and died January 12, 2013, living his entire life in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Jack married his wife Violet at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in 1958, and they remained married for 54 years, raising six children together and enjoying 14 grandchildren;
and
WHEREAS, Jack and Violet moved to a house near Laramie Avenue and School Street in 1961, and Jack immediately became involved in the life of his parish and his community; and
WHEREAS, Jack served for eight years on the St. Bartholomew Parish Council, and for many more years ran the Parents Club, bingo, and many other fundraising efforts; and
WHEREAS, Jack served for four years as president of the Notre Dame High School for Girls
Board; and
WHEREAS, Jack worked as the general manager of a plastics company; and
WHEREAS, Jack, as soon as he moved to the Northwest Side, became active in local politics, assisting the 38lh Ward Regular Democratic Organization as an assistant precinct captain and precinct captain; and
WHEREAS, Jack was always honored to help local residents access government and community services, and could be found during every election over decades at the polling place in Foreman High School; and
WHEREAS, Jack did all of this despite contracting polio at three years old, an illness that never stopped him from dancing the jitterbug; therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council gathered here this 13th day of February, 2012, do hereby offer heartfelt condolences to the Schneider family on his passing, and our appreciation for his decades of community service; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Violet Schneider and her children.
