I transmit herewith, together with Alderman Osterman, a congratulatory resolution regarding John Flisk on the occasion of his retirement.

RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, John H. Flisk (Star # 9630) is retiring as a Police Officer from the Chicago Police Department's 20th District; and i

WHEREAS, A lifelong Chicagoan and resident of the City's Northwest side, Officer Flisk attended St. Robert Bellarmine Grammar School, St. Patrick High School, Washburn Trade School's union carpenter apprenticeship program, Cook County Sheriff's Academy, Chicago Police Academy, and Lewis University for Criminal Justice; and
WHEREAS, Officer Flisk has served 28 years in law enforcement, five with the Cook County Sheriff's office and 23 with the Chicago Police Department; and

WHEREAS, Officer Flisk has been awarded the 2004 Crime Reduction Ribbon, the 2009 Crime Reduction Award, three Attendance Recognition Awards, one Democratic National Convention Award, two Joint Operations Awards, one NATO Summit Service Award, .and one Presidential Election Deployment Award. Over the course of his distinguished career, he has made more than 1,100 arrests and recovered 262 guns; and

WHEREAS, John Flisk has brought great credit to the Chicago Police Department with his heroic actions, for which he was recognized with two Department Commendations. In one instance, Officer Flisk and several colleagues were recognized for apprehending a man who robbed a bank with a briefcase bomb. Once the officers located the offender, he held himself hostage with both the device and handgun, then shot himself. John Fisk and his fellow officers immediately rendered aid to the offender, cordoned off the area and protected the public until a bomb robot could destroy the off...
