RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, John Weithers has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, A resident of Burr Ridge, John Weithers was the loving husband for forty-six years of Mary; and
 
WHEREAS, John Weithers was the much-adored father of John-Henry, Molly, Maggie, Christopher and Jeremy and the grandfather of seven to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, The grandson of Irish immigrants, John Weithers graduated from the University of Notre Dame and earned a master's degree in business administration degree from DePaul University; and
 
WHEREAS, John Weithers was a retired Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Chicago Stock Exchange; and
 
WHEREAS, John Weithers was a devout Catholic known for his integrity and humility; and
 
WHEREAS, A widely admired civic leader, John Weithers served on the boards of DePaul University, St. Mary's College and St. Ignatius College Prep; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of John Weithers serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared John Weithers to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
 
WHEREAS, John Weithers will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, John Weithers imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eleventh day of December, 2013, do hereby commemorate John Weithers for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Weithers.
