RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Dr. James M. Galloway, a widely respected member of the medical community and a longtime federal official, has retired as U.S. Health and Human Services Regional Health Administrator for Region V and as Assistant U.S. Surgeon General; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his retirement by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, As Regional Health Administrator since 2007, Dr. James M. Galloway ably served as the senior federal public health physician, official and scientist responsible for the upper Midwest region; and
WHEREAS, Since 2007 Dr. James M. Galloway has been an Assistant U.S. Surgeon General in charge of spearheading efforts to promote special department health initiatives aimed at reducing hospital acquired infections and dealing with HIV prevention; and
WHEREAS, Dr. James M. Galloway earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia and is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology; and
WHEREAS, Dr. James M. Galloway began his long and illustrious career with the federal government in 1985; and
WHEREAS, Early in his career, Dr. James M. Galloway served the Hopi Reservation in Arizona; and
WHEREAS, During his illustrious tenure, Dr. James M. Galloway was also the Clinical Director of Whiteriver PHS Hospital on the White Mountain Apache Reservation and the Founder and Director of the Native American Cardiology Program; and
WHEREAS, From 2007 to 2010, Dr. James M. Galloway was the Senior Health Official for Pandemic Influenza and Bioterrorism for United States Region C; and
WHEREAS, Dr. James M. Galloway earned the rank of Rear Admiral in the U.S. Public Health Service; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Dr. James M. Galloway serve as an example to all; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-sixth day of June, 2013, do hereby congratulate Dr. James M. Galloway on his retirement and do...
