RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Almighty God, in His infinite wisdom and mercy, called Rexie Wells Jr. from this life to eternity on November 27, 2014, at the age of 72; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has been advised of Mr. Wells' passing by the Honorable Deborah Graham, Alderman of the 29th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Rexie Wells Jr. was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi to the late Rexie Wells Sr. and Geneva Wells;
WHEREAS, after attending W.A. Higgins High School in the city of his birth, Mr. Wells relocated to Chicago in the late 1950s to build a better life for himself; and
WHEREAS, in Chicago Mr. Wells found employment with Commonwealth Edison Company as a lineman, working in that capacity for 42 years and remaining available during his retirement to consult with the company during times of crisis; and
WHEREAS, it was also in Chicago that Mr. Wells wed the love of his life, Georgia Evans. Their 35-year marriage was blessed with the birth of five children; and
WHEREAS, early in his life Mr. Wells made his profession of Christian faith. Understanding that faith involves not only a call to worship but a call to service, Mr. Wells became active in the Rock of Ages Baptist Church where, under the leadership of Pastor Marvin E. Wiley, he served the needs of others in the transportation ministry and as a volunteer in the food pantry; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Wells quick with a smile and was generous of heart. Knowing that life is a blessing, he enjoyed cars, fashion, sports and travel and, above all, he loved spending time with his family; and
WHEREAS, preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Melvin and Calvin, Mr. Wells is survived by his loving wife, Georgia; five children: Yogi (Eric), Veolia (Ivy), San, Gloria and Nathaniel; seven brothers: David Lee (Inez), James Arthur, Milton, Ceasor (Tonda), Rodney (Georgia), Donald (Chevon), and Ronald; six sisters: Eleanor (John), Naviree, Roberta, Carlene, Charlene and Shirley; 13 grandchildren (Jannay, Lamontae, Deontayshia, Deon, Deo...
