WHEREAS, On Sunday, November 21, 2010, the Almighty God, in his infinite wisdom called to her eternal journey, Rosie L. Starks; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this by 18th Ward Alderman Lona Lane; and
WHEREAS, Rosie L. Starks was born on January 4, 1955 in Belzoni, Mississippi to Florence and Garfield Starks; and
WHEREAS, She graduated from Wendell Phillips High School in 1975 and chose her profession as a CTA bus operator for over 23 years until her early retirement. Her family moved to Chicago's south side in 1971 joining the Fellowship at Travelers Rest M.B. Church where she served as an usher. Later, she made her final place of worship at a Gift from God C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of Elder Florence Starks, Pastor. She surrendered her life to God and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Rosie had a strong interest and concern for her community, electing to become the facilitator for Beat 312 for several years; and
WHEREAS, Rosie was preceded in death by her father, Garfield Starks and leaves to cherish her memories, her loving mother, Florence Starks; a daughter, Tabitha Starks; a son, Jeremy Starks; two grandchildren, Enrique and Makiya; two brothers, Maine (Sherita) Starks, and Darryl (Fatima) Starks; three sisters, Fannie (Robert) Autrey, Juanita (Tab) Gibbs, and Chaquita (Kenneth) Starks-Currie; nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives, friends, and her church family; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here in assembly this thirteenth day of January, 2011 A.D., do hereby express our sorrow in the passing of Rosie L. Starks and extend to her family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Rosie L. Starks' family.
