RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Martin Sheen was inducted into the Irish American Hall of Fame at the Irish American Heritage Center's 2017 Awards Gala on June 10,2017; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this honor by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 2011, the Irish American Heritage Center's Hall of Fame has inducted famous icons, past and present, including President John F. Kennedy, playwright Eugene O'Neill, author F. Scott Fitzgerald and dancer Michael Flatley; and
WHEREAS, Born Ram6n Antonio Gerardo Estevez, the son of a Spanish father and an Irish mother, Martin Sheen changed his name for the stage; and
WHEREAS, Martin Sheen first became known for his roles in the films The Subject Was Roses (1968) and Badlands (1973), and later achieved wide recognition for his leading role in Apocalypse Now (1979).
WHEREAS, Martin Sheen appeared in a wide repertoire of successful films which also included Gandhi (1982), Gettysburg (1993), The Departed (2006), and The Amazing Spider-Man (2012); and
WHEREAS, Martin Sheen also starred as President Josiah Bartlet in the television series The West Wing from 1999 to 2006; and
WHEREAS, The artistic talent and dedication of Martin Sheen serve as an example to all; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-eighth day of June, 2017, do hereby congratulate Martin Sheen on his induction into the Irish American Hall of Fame and do hereby express our best wishes for his continued success; and
