CONGRATULATIONS EXTENDED TO POLICE OFFICER LESLIE SMITH ON RETIREMENT FROM THE CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, On December 7, 2017, Police Officer Leslie Smith will retire from the Chicago Police Department following twenty-four years of dedicated public service; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this occasion by the Honorable Derrick Curtis, Alderman of the 18th Ward; and
WHEREA?Police Officer Leslie Smith, Star #16950, will retire as a valued member of the 6lh District; and
WHEREAS, Dedication to and fulfillment of the motto of the Chicago Police Department - "We Serve and Protect" - exacts a substantial physical and emotional toll not only on the officers who must daily cope with the stress and danger of being life's arbitrator for countless citizens, but also on their family members; and
WHEREAS, Throughout a long and distinguished tenure, Officer Leslie Smith upheld the finest traditions of the law enforcement community and hard work, commitment and dedication to duty earned Officer Smith the respect and admiration of colleagues and the communities Officer Smith protected; and
WHEREAS, Police Officer Leslie Smith devoted twenty-one years to life in public service to the people of the City of Chicago and in doing so has personally ensured that the City of Chicago is the safe, healthy and vibrant community it is today; and
WHEREAS, The leaders of this great City of Chicago are cognizant of the great debt owed our public servants, and extend our sincerest gratitude to the long and prolific career of Police Officer Leslie Smith; now, therefore
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this twenty-first day of November, 2017, do hereby express our gratitude for twenty-four years of work in service to the people of the City of Chicago, and express our heartiest wishes on a pleasant retirement to Leslie Smith; and
